European Hotels Among Last to Recover? Don’t Tell That to Germany

European cities’ reliance on long-haul travel means their hotels could be the last to recover from the coronavirus downturn in travel, Marriott CEO Arne Sorenson said Monday during an earnings call. But not every European city is built with the same travel fundamentals.

The general consensus among travel analysts and executives is that domestic and drive-to travel destinations will rebound before markets that depend more on air travel. China and the U.S. have a stronger domestic traveler base than European countries, meaning Europe’s hotel recovery could take longer, Sorenson said. French ministers reject ‘lovers’ amendment’ and rule out easing long-distance travel restrictions for couples

Couples in France who live far from each other will be forced to remain apart under coronavirus restrictions after French ministers rejected a proposed change to the law which would have allowed long-distance travel for the reason of “love”.

Mireille Clapot, a member of the ruling centrist party LREM, suggested love should be added to a list of acceptable reasons for people to travel more than 100km (60 miles) from home when lockdown restrictions are eased on Monday.
