US Travel Association calls for CDC to lift restrictions on cruise industry, allow sailing to resume

U.S. Travel Association, the national trade group that represents all facets of American travel, is joining the cruise industry in calling for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to lift its conditional sailing order, and for the agency to provide a path forward that allows cruise lines to resume sailing.

“We join the calls to identify the way toward lifting the Conditional Sail Order and allowing the phased resumption of cruise operations as quickly as possible,” Roger Dow, president of the U.S. Travel Association, said in a statement.

Tui cuts summer holiday capacity as fears over third coronavirus wave grow

Travel company Tui has cut its summer holiday schedules amid new coronavirus restrictions in Europe.

The Anglo-German firm announced it is offering 75% of its pre-pandemic capacity in the peak travel months starting from July, down from a planned 80%.

Some 2.8 million guests are booked on summer trips, down 60% compared with the same point in 2019.

But average prices are up 22%, due to a rise in the proportion of package tours being booked.

Philippines shuts churches, curbs travel as virus surges

Churches in Manila will be closed, eating inside restaurants banned and leisure travel outside the Philippine capital curbed under new coronavirus rules unveiled Sunday as the country battles a resurgence in infections.

The number of new cases has exceeded 7,000 for three days in a row — the highest since the start of the pandemic — taking the country’s caseload to more than 663,000 and straining hospitals.
