Canada extends travel ban to August 31, launches COVID-19 contact tracing app

OTTAWA (Reuters) – Canada on Friday extended a measure barring most foreign travelers from entering the country and launched a new contact tracing app as part of its fight to control the “gate-crashing” coronavirus pandemic.

The extension to Aug. 31 applies to foreign travelers entering Canada from outside the United States. It came despite calls from Air Canada and some European aviation companies for Ottawa to restore safe travel.

Canada has a separate agreement for border crossings with the United States. The two countries earlier this month agreed to extend restrictions on non-essential travel

These states require travelers to self-quarantine or present negative COVID-19 test

As state have opened back up, some are now tightening restrictions, and travelers may not be free to come and go as they please amid the coronavirus pandemic.

United warns travel demand will languish until COVID-19 vaccine

CHICAGO (Reuters) – United Airlines Holdings Inc warned on Tuesday that travel demand will remain suppressed until there is a widely accepted treatment or vaccine for COVID-19, which plunged the carrier to a deep quarterly loss on Tuesday.

Trump’s alternate reality on COVID-19 threat

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump appears to be living in an alternate reality when it comes to the COVID-19 threat.

Over the weekend, he clung to the misguided notion that the virus will just “disappear” even as his top science experts and GOP allies bluntly say otherwise.

New Yorkers who visit states with high COVID-19 infection rates will be ineligible for sick leave

ALBANY – Don’t go to a state with a high COVID-19, come back to New York and expect to get paid sick leave benefits.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed an executive order Saturday that strips the paid sick leave protections for New York employees who voluntarily travel to high-risk states after June 25.

“If we are going to maintain the progress we’ve seen, we need everyone to take personal responsibility,” Cuomo said in a statement.
