All travellers from Spain to the UK must self-isolate at home for two weeks, the Department for Transport (DfT) has announced.

In addition, the Foreign Office says Spain poses “an unacceptably high risk for British travellers,” and now advises against all non-essential travel to the whole country, including the Balearic and Canary Islands.

Travel insurance for British holidaymakers already in Spain will remain in effect; UK travellers in Spain are not being advised to leave.

Holidaymakers who went to Spain will need to self isolate for two weeks when they touch down in the UK after the government suddenly announced the country would be removed from the no-quarantine list.

Reassurance for travellers over cancelled holiday refunds

Holidaymakers who were given refund credit notes, rather than cash, for their cancelled package holiday are being reassured their money is safe.

The authorities have clarified that these refund promises are guaranteed even if the travel company which provided them goes bust.

They are distinct from holiday vouchers which do not have the same protection.

Anyone whose package holiday is cancelled has the right to a full cash refund.

Everywhere you can go on holiday this summer

The government has announced a list of countries and territories where Britons will be able to go on holiday this summer without quarantining.

From 10 July, those travelling from 59 approved destinations into England, Wales and Northern Ireland and 57 countries into Scotland are exempt from the mandatory 14-day self-isolation period imposed on all inbound arrivals.
