U.S. plans to restrict Mexico, Canada border crossings until late August

The Trump administration is planning to extend restrictions barring non-essential travel across the Mexican and Canadian borders until at least late August as coronavirus cases and deaths continue to spike in the U.S. and Mexico, according to three people familiar with the plans.

The U.S., in separate agreements with Mexico and Canada, will make a formal announcement before July 21 that non-essential travel will be restricted for at least another 30 days, the people said.

“It’s an almost certainty,” a senior administration official told POLITICO.

Thailand expects to delay plans for ‘travel bubble’ on virus worries

BANGKOK (Reuters) – Thailand expects to delay plans for so-called travel bubbles given a resurgence in coronavirus infections in countries that had managed to contain the initial outbreak, a senior official told Reuters on Wednesday.

Thailand partially lifted a three-month ban on foreign visitors this month and had been planning to further boost tourism, a key contributor to its economy, by creating travel bubbles later in the year with countries like Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong that had managed to contain the virus.

Pence cancels plans to travel to Florida and Arizona as coronavirus cases spike

WASHINGTON — Vice President Mike Pence has canceled events in Florida and Arizona as coronavirus cases spike in those states. 

A spokesperson for President Donald Trump’s campaign confirmed to USA TODAY the events, which included stops as part of Pence’s “Faith in America” tour, were canceled “out of an abundance of caution” as cases climb in Florida and Arizona. 

On Tuesday, Pence was scheduled to give remarks at a “Faith in America” event in Tucson and to meet with Gov. Doug Ducey about the COVID-19 response.

With New York City’s reopening plan not yet finalized, FFANY is unveiling a modified plan for its August market week.

“As we are all aware, New York City has been the epicenter of the pandemic and the city will understandably be slow to recover and resume normal activities. Part of this reopening will be the city being ready to welcome business visitors and the willingness of buyers to travel to Manhattan,” said John Heron, executive director of FFANY. “Unfortunately, we do not anticipate this being viable in August.”
